Welcome to Tempered Calamity! For as long as horses can remember, this place has been their santucary far removed from the presence of any humans. Well protected and abundant in food and space, equines of all kinds have called these lands home. Over time, the original horses who settled here spread out to explore and established the territory boundaries known today.
On the surface things appear peaceful between the different bands as well as the free roaming horses, but all is not as it seems. The inhabitants here are under constant threat. Not only do they have to survive the elements and natural disasters and outwit predators, they must also face rival herds or individuals looking to steal land or other horses.
Tempered Calamity is a semi-realistic wild horse rpg inspired by old school play by post forums. Low word count and minimal activity requirements, come check us out or say hey on our discord!

Calypso is a difficult horse to be friends with. She does not understand discretion in terms of those she is close with and can easily cross boundaries by running her mouth. Her sense of humour is crude at best and her choice in topic downright appalling. But however brash she may be, she is fiercely loyal to those in her circle and would not hesitate to jump in the line of fire for any of them.
Antagonistic
Enemies are something she has in spades, mostly due to her "burn it and run" approach to things. She is not forgiving in the slightest and is quick tempered and would rather pick a fight than discuss the matter diplomatically, even if the matter is only trivial. She is also extremely vindictive and petty, taking delight in exacting revenge over the smallest offences. Or simply pulling one prank too many.
Romantic
She has difficulty developing strong attachments or maintaining long or serious romantic relationships. She's slow to trust their intentions and is much more likely to shuffle through various lovers to satisfy her needs or keep her company before moving on to the next. Gender is of no meaning to her. But perhaps in time she could learn to love again, provided they don't try to tie her down.
Looking For
Ride-or-Die Calypso would have someone who is her absolute best friend whom she would go to the ends of the earth for and they would do the same. Even if they haven't been friends for long, she tends to bond with one individual and stick by them no matter what. Ideally a stallion but she could also do this with a mare.
Frenemies Friendly enemies or rivals, Calypso has many as she tends to run her mouth off first and ask questions later. More often than not she will quickly respond with a witty or sassy remark and then realise that she spoke before using her brain.
Enemies to Lovers I can see her starting off on the wrong hoof with someone, perhaps on both sides, but gradually over time and continued interactions they would grow closer or learn to appreciate each other's quirks or behaviours.

More than anything Calypso seeks adventure. Nothing is too dangerous, no challenge too great, no feat too big. She eagerly purses risk and uncertainty. The more perilous the better. She eats her fears for breakfast and leaves weaker horses crying in her wake. Few who meet Calypso would describe her as delicate or feminine. In fact, most might call her “a terrifying tornado of reckless abandon.” She tends to stir up trouble and offend even the gentlest of horses whether she intends to or not.
[break][break]
Perhaps because of her gruff manner or blunt manner of speech. She often speaks her mind unwarranted and completely without tact. She can be very opinionated or judgemental and has been known to voice thoughts out loud without quite realising it. Due to her inability for discretion, she has trouble making friends. Her idea of a friend is someone she can trade bites or kicks with and shares an equally abysmal sense of humour.
[break][break]
Calypso is free spirited and baulks at the idea of settling down. That’s not to say she’s against being bound to a herd, but she rather hates the idea of not being allowed to come and go as she sees fit. She is very independent and self-reliant, struggling to trust anyone other than herself to watch her back. Because of this, and her previous life, she is notably quick-witted and resourceful in any situation. Particularly when backed into a corner. She has rarely come across a situation that she was unable to talk or fight her way out of. Or simply escaped through unusual means, such as using the environment around her to her advantage.
[break][break]
She is very impatient. Not at all willing to wait for things to come to her or work in her favour. She has a habit of speaking over others if she feels a conversation, or simply just they, are speaking too slowly. She might even simply just walk away with a flick of her tail and a roll of her eyes. She will make impulsive decisions and doesn’t stop to consider the consequences. “Cross that hurdle when it comes” sort of mindset regarding most things.
[break][break]
Calypso can be temperament if corrected or chastised about her behaviour. She also is quick to anger in regard to anything she perceives as judgement or negative attitude directed toward her. She is not shy to let anyone know exactly how much she won’t tolerate such “hate-speech.” If she does feel wronged, and she does, she has a vindictive streak as wide as the sea is vast. Ironically, her desire for revenge is perhaps the only instance when she does exhibit some patience. There is no limit to how far she will go, or how long she will wait, to exact the perfect revenge.
[break][break]
Unabashedly shameless she is not above using her feminine wiles to charm someone into satisfying her more primal urges. Even if the encounter is only to last for a moment. She also is rather forward when discussing her previous lovers or exploits and comes across almost as bragging about them. She rarely pauses to ask if such talk is even appropriate or wanted.

History
[attr="class","maintext"]
She was born the illegitimate daughter of the lead stallion to her herd. Her mother told her from a young age that her father had been nothing more than a passing stranger, but near the anniversary of her birth she learned the truth. The lead mare had discovered the truth and was quick to exact her revenge. Calypso was quickly thrust from her herd and left to her own devices in the wilderness. Fate smiled greatly upon her, as not long after she encountered a small bachelor herd. They readily accepted her into their midst once she had proven her worth.
[break][break]
She learned to wrestle and fight with the colts, slowly becoming able to hold her own against even the roughest of them. She picked up on their rough manner of speech and devil-may-care attitude when it came to others. None had any intentions of settling down, and so roaming the vast territories taking food from other herds as they pleased and generally causing mayhem wherever they went. At times they would even steal away young colts from the herds they passed.
[break][break]
Being the only female, she had, at one point or another, been intimate with a majority of the herd, but never committed. Eventually though, she did take a lover from within the herd. Such a decision spelled the end. Just a year later, he was dead, and she left the only real family she had ever known, finding her way to the islands to start anew.

[attr="class","calamity-post-body"] It had been a long day. Exhausting really. Already the baroque-esque stallion was starting to regret his decision to intermingle with his kind. It was vastly apparent to him that he was much better suited to remaining alone. Screw company. Nothing could beat the symphony of silence that was solitude. So what if it was lonely? It was far superior than being nagged at, harassed, or otherwise annoyed. That’s what everyone else was. Obnoxiously annoying. He had utterly no reason to seek company. He was a stallion and dammit he could do what he wanted.
Dusk had fallen as he had trekked away from the prairie and the wetlands beyond. His hooves took him through the ravine and down to a stream. He wasn’t particularly thirsty so took the opportunity to step into the water. It felt cool against his aching feet and he sighed in relief. His neck lowered slowly, his eyes never leaving the horizon. The flow of the river tickled his whiskers as he drank deeply. Satisfied, he left the confines of the creek, following the course of it further from the edges of the world.
Soon he came across low hills and mountains. Huge rock spires jutting up from the ground and sprawling as far the eye could see. The dark shadows cast by the protruding rock would provide some cover from would be predators. His deep coat would help him blend in he knew. His eyes surveyed the surrounding landscape. No one. Just the wind and the sky and the earth. He inhaled deeply. The smell of other horses, but the scents were old and near faded. He strode forward, his hooves making muffled thumps on the hard ground.
He could feel the temperature dropping steadily the further he meandered deeper into the hills. There was new grass sprouting from under the brush and other hardy foliage. Deeper in he could hear the faint echo of a waterfall. It suited him just fine. He had been toying with the idea of settling down somewhere. To be frank, he wasn’t particularly keen on journeying any further. Solitude suited him just fine, but not the life of a wanderer. The stallion took another view of the surrounding terrain. Yes, this would do just fine.
A rumbling snort broke the silence, a declaration of his decision. No need for screaming his claim; such noise would just foolishly give away his position. Just because he couldn’t see or smell predators nearby didn’t mean they couldn’t be there. Centurion shifted his weight slightly, his hoof scratching the dirt. If anyone did show up he would simply give them three options: challenge him, join him, or get out. Easy.
Now, to find a sufficient place to spend the night.
Centurion is only interested in friends that benefit him or agree with him on all counts. He lowkey hates everyone else and is difficult to approach. While definitely arrogant and slightly conceited, if you earn his respect, he will express acknowledgement and occasionally might praise you. In contrast, if he dislikes you, be prepared for nothing but spite and disdain. He really priorities his own interests and is not fond of deep attachments. This makes him slow to trust and if he can, will just avoid opening up to others in general. He can be abrasive and cold, even when he actually does care, as he finds it difficult to express most emotions. If you do manage to get past his walls, he can be great listener and even somewhat nice.
Antagonistic
It’s no surprise that Centurion has more enemies than anything else. Due to his individualistic and calculative nature, he comes across as a selfish jerkoff who couldn’t care less about anything other than his own personal gains. Not to mention his more elitist mentality and general disdain for others. He can also be incredibly spiteful and if wronged will go to any lengths to exact his revenge. No effort is too great in the pursuit of vengeance.
Romantic
For the most part, he feels neutral about being with anyone. He doesn’t actively seek out or go out of his way to avoid anyone. That said, Centurion’s not really dating material. He’s rather shallow. At the start of a relationship, he’ll try to shower his partner in gifts and sweet words, but it’s only a matter of time before his partner realises that he has no sincerity. He treats relationships as more of a responsibility than a commitment. He is picky about his lovers, and only chooses someone if they will benefit him in some way.
Looking For
Friendly Rivalry -- Someone that he is both comfortable enough around to open up more and relax but also likes to push him or challenge him to mock fights or silly games.
Troublemaker Friends -- Horses that he considers friends but maybe make poor decisions or encourage him to do the same. Maybe it's convincing him he should test his strength against a bigger horse etc.
Enemies -- Centurion is constantly offending others with his abrasive personality and curt speech. It's only a matter of time before he makes someone mad enough to declare him an enemy for life. Would love to have him be enemies in particular with the lead for The Valley as I can see them constantly fighting over their shared border.
Negative Traits: Unapologetic, Suspicious, Manipulative, Arrogant, Ambitious, At times can be cruel
[attr="class","maintext"]
Quirks/Fun Facts: Struggles to not come off as sinister when he wants to make a genuine friend. Perpetually seems like he's up to something.
[break]
[attr="class","maintext"]
As the son of a band stallion, Centurion is cocky and sure of himself. Arrogant to a fault, he parades himself on the front that he knows everything there is to know, and everyone else is wrong. He most values control and power over those around him, and around himself, and has been described as ambitious and short-tempered. He loathes when things don’t go his way and will either fight and/or terrorise others into agreeing with him. He could even be considered cruel about it should he feel that such extremes are necessary.
[break][break]
Most notably, Centurion is a capable fighter and is generally very serious. He has a no-nonsense air and does not take or appreciate other's bull. He’s the type who knows what he wants and proceeds to go get it. By any means. He can be courteous or polite, if it’s to his advantage. He’s manipulative by nature, and one would hardly call him loyal by any means. In tune with being manipulative, Centurion can be disturbingly charming in nature and eloquent in speech. He has a unique talent for turning even the most reluctant to his side.
[break][break]
Suspicious of everyone else’s intentions and motivations by default, he is slow to trust, if at all, and rarely tells the truth. Could be considered paranoid but will resent anyone who insinuates as much. While outwardly Centurion makes great efforts to be aloof and indifferent, he can easily be provoked if one knows the right buttons to push. If pushed too far, Centurion can be downright cruel.
[break][break]
Centurion boasts a keen intellect. Capable of analysing situations and solving problems rapidly. He is also adept at reading other’s emotions and desires and playing to them to suit his own needs. He is methodical and thorough in his deductions and might even be guilty of overthinking things at times. When his brain does get him into trouble, he is more than capable of fighting or muscling his way out of the situation.
[break][break]
He does not easily make friends. Partly because he sees most everyone else as inferior, and partly because he is unapologetically blunt about his exploits. Which, unless he is intentionally trying to charm or impress, just comes off as unashamed bragging. Because of this, he might avoid the topic all together and be more than intentionally vague when asked personal questions or when he is the topic of discussion.
[break][break]
In contrast, with those he does consider friends or close enough that he tolerates their presence, he can be downright nice. This is especially true when it comes to his lovers. He is guilty of putting them on a pedestal and brandishing his affections for them for all to see. Often this just leads to him easily boring of his partner and moving on to the next.

History
[attr="class","maintext"]
Born to the band stallion and lead mare of a small herd, Centurion grew up spoiled and arrogant. What he wanted, he got, and no one dared argue. Just before his first birthday, his herd disappeared overnight. Whether they abandoned him, or otherwise, Centurion does not know. He has learned not to care.
[break][break]
A year later, when he crossed paths with the first horse since his herd had disappeared, he was almost unrecognisable. And he was desperate. The other horse was older, with an unsettling air about him. Centurion could’ve cared less. He convinced the other stallion to take him in and they formed an awkward companionship.
[break][break]
He learned how to survive, and he learned to resent most everything and everyone except his companion. As he grew, his confidence returned. And with it, his arrogance. Eventually, his high-and-mighty attitude combined with his age pushed him and his companion apart. There was a terrible fight which resulted in a large, ugly scar along the crest of Centurion’s neck. He left, travelling far in search of a new place. One where his past wouldn’t haunt him.
