Welcome to Tempered Calamity! For as long as horses can remember, this place has been their santucary far removed from the presence of any humans. Well protected and abundant in food and space, equines of all kinds have called these lands home. Over time, the original horses who settled here spread out to explore and established the territory boundaries known today.
On the surface things appear peaceful between the different bands as well as the free roaming horses, but all is not as it seems. The inhabitants here are under constant threat. Not only do they have to survive the elements and natural disasters and outwit predators, they must also face rival herds or individuals looking to steal land or other horses.
Tempered Calamity is a semi-realistic wild horse rpg inspired by old school play by post forums. Low word count and minimal activity requirements, come check us out or say hey on our discord!

DATE HERE
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
[attr="class","maintext"] Tempered Calamity experiences all four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] Seasons last for three real life months. However, this will not impact or limit your character's stories. ie Pregnant mares do not have to wait the full year to give birth.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] While we do use liquid time on the site, please try and keep new threads you start relative to the current season. If you're finishing up an older thread from a previous season, carry on! You don't have to have the season change mid-conversation or anything.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] When each new season starts, Mother Nature will post an update about the status of the land as well as what you can expect of the weather. It will also include a few writing prompts for things your characters might encounter or need to be wary of. ie avalanches in spring or drought in summer etc.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
05
[attr="class","maintext"] Each spring, all characters will be automatically aged up by at least one year. It is your responsibility to keep track of your character's ages and update them accordingly. If you would like to age your character up more than one year due to plots or things that happened to them, you're more than welcome to do so!
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
06
[attr="class","maintext"] Every so often, there will be site-wide events. Things like strangers coming to the lands that might impact or change the course of events, major disasters, or sometimes just fun events for characters to meet or interact.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
07
[attr="class","maintext"] While participating in events is not mandatory, it is encouraged! Events are a great opportunity to ineract with the other members as well as a chance to earn some special rewards or bonuses!
[attr="class","maintext"] Any horse may claim a land as long as they are at least three years of age and do not currently hold any land.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] In order to claim a land, you just need to post a thread in the land with your character "claiming it" as theirs. Example
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] Herd leaders are required to post at least once monthly. In order to get credit for posting, make sure to update our Herd Lead Activity Check thread. Missing the activity check will result in one strike. if you receive three strikes, your lands will be forfeit and put back up for claiming.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] When you claim a land, you are responsible for keeping track of your herd's current members and their ranks. Post a thread in your new land that details the stats and notify a staff member so they can pin it for you. Providing quick join options are recommended but not mandatory!
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
05
[attr="class","maintext"] You're welcome to use a pre-made herd roster template coded to match the skin available here! Or feel free to use another template or if you're savvy and want to use your own! Whatever you like as long as it includes at minimum the lead(s), heirs, and current members.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
06
[attr="class","maintext"] Herd leaders are able to make their own rules or laws for their land such as guidelines or restrictions on joining or anything else they wish to implement.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
07
[attr="class","maintext"] Once you claim a land, you are immune from challenges for at least one in game season (3 real life months).
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
08
[attr="class","maintext"] For details on challenging a lead for their land, see fighting below.
[attr="class","maintext"] Fights usually occur through land disputes, challenges, personal squabbles, or whatever other reason.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] While it's a-okay to make a character who's grumpy all the time and likes to pick fights, please do not go around actually trying to fight other characters constantly without the other member's consent first.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] Fighting can happen anywhere in the forum but must be composed in a separate thread from the one where the fight or offence started. Make sure you tag a staff member when starting a fight thread.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] Fighting consists of a set amount of hits and dodges. Each character will get a total of 2 hits and 1 blocks per fight. After each post in the fight, characters will have 4 real life days to respond. Failure to do so will automatically end the fight and the character with the most recent post will be the winner.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
05
[attr="class","maintext"] Judging will be conducted separately by at least two different staff members. You will be judged on the quality of your posts. A 300 word minimum per post, realism, adherence to the hit/block limit, and in general that the posts are well thought out and depict the character's thoughts, motivations, and actions in a cohesive manner.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
06
[attr="class","maintext"] The winner will be whoever earns the most points totalled up between the judges.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
07
[attr="class","maintext"] Keep in mind that fighting often results in injuries of varying severity. Any injuries sustained during a fight may be permanent and affect your character for the rest of their life.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
08
[attr="class","maintext"] Practice fighting is allowed and usually happens between young horses, often colts seeking to test out their skills, but fillies have also been known to spar as well. Characters can engage in a practice fight and be judged by staff without needing to meet the word count requirement.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
09
[attr="class","maintext"] Land challenges must be clearly communicated to the current herd leader as a declaration of the challenge posted in their lands. The herd leader then has 5 real-life days to respond to the challenge or their land is forfeit. You may not refuse a challenge unless you have an outstanding reason. [break] *Herd leaders who have notified the forum that they are absent are immune from challenges.
[attr="class","maintext"] All horses are allowed a chance to steal any horse whether in a herd or not. All stealing happens ooc, but you are welcome to post ic after a steal regardless of it being successful or not.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] Any horse intending to steal must use the provided form and write a riddle to describe the horse they mean to capture. All members will have 5 real life days to guess who the thief is describing.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] Only herd leaders, significant others, or parents will be able to block a steal attempt. Horses who do not have any of the mentioned blockers are unable to be blocked or block themselves.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] Members must wait at least one real life week to try and steal again if their previous attempt was unsuccessful. If it was successful, you must wait at least two real life weeks before trying to steal again.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
05
[attr="class","maintext"] If no one guesses the riddle correctly within the time limit, the thief can consider their steal successful and at that time reveal who it is they have stolen and explain their riddle.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
06
[attr="class","maintext"] If anyone does correctly guess the riddle within the time limit, they have successfully blocked the steal and the poster must consider their steal attempt unsuccessful. This will enable the blocker to then engage the thief in a fight, or if the blocker is a herd leader, they might consider banning the offender or punishing them however they see fit.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
07
[attr="class","maintext"] Stolen characters must have at least one thread with their captor but after that are free to "run away" or otherwise escape/return to where they were if they so desire. They will not be forced to remain with their abductor.
[attr="class","maintext"] Both parents must be at least 3 years of age and must have at least one completed thread between them before they can request a foal.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] Graphic roleplay of the breeding is not permitted per proboards ToS. You must fade to black.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] The breeding will first be rolled to see if conception was successful or not. If not, you can try again in 1 real life week. If it was, the foal's individual stats will be rolled as well and congratulations! You have a new foal on the way.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] Mares must stay pregnant for at least one real life month before posting the birth. Graphic depictions of the birth process are not permitted. Either fade to black, or post with your mare leaving the herd for a short while and returning with her new foal.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
05
[attr="class","maintext"] Breeding horses and donkeys is a-okay but any resulting foals will be sterile mules.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
06
[attr="class","maintext"] Breeding that is violent or assault is not permitted. Just don't please...
[attr="class","maintext"] The Isle and Archipelago are not connected to the mainland except for a narrow sandbar that in the summer and early autumn is usable for passage to The Isle and Archipelago.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
02
[attr="class","maintext"] All attempts to reach the isles must be made in The Crossing. Posts must be at least 300 words and explain your characters thoughts and motivations for making the journey.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
03
[attr="class","maintext"] The success or failure of your attempt will be determined by dice roll weighted by the current season when the attempt is made. ie if attempting in the summer, you will have a higher chance of success vs in spring. Mother Nature will reply to your thread and post the results. If your character failed in their attempt, they may sustain injury.
[attr="class","section flex"]
[attr="class","labeltext"]
04
[attr="class","maintext"] All characters who successfully cross over must stay on the islands for at least one seasonal change. So if you cross in summer, you must wait until autumn to attempt to cross back.
