Welcome to Tempered Calamity! For as long as horses can remember, this place has been their santucary far removed from the presence of any humans. Well protected and abundant in food and space, equines of all kinds have called these lands home. Over time, the original horses who settled here spread out to explore and established the territory boundaries known today.
On the surface things appear peaceful between the different bands as well as the free roaming horses, but all is not as it seems. The inhabitants here are under constant threat. Not only do they have to survive the elements and natural disasters and outwit predators, they must also face rival herds or individuals looking to steal land or other horses.

Crystalline water flowed around the mare's pale hooves, a tense, puzzled expression staring back at her from the water. What was she doing here again? Was there any particular reason for coming to this place? Deirdre stared at her reflection as if expecting it to answer, but nothing came except the ambience of the world around her. Typical. Sighing with utter disappointment the splash mare stepped free of the water giving herself a shake to ward off the underlying chill. Despite the warming season it still felt chilly even with a blazing sun overhead. She didn't want to imagine how winters here were.
"Looks like I'll be continuing my journey...somewhere. Wherever that 'somewhere' may be." Deirdre began a slow shuffle along the course of the river, staring ahead yet seeing nothing. It had been a year already since leaving her birth herd in search of either a new one or even for a traveling companion. Neither of which she'd been successful in gaining. The mare wasn't one to give up easily if at all, but even she was beginning to feel a little dejected. Weren't horses herd animals? Why was it so hard finding others of her kind, then? Deirdre shook her head, ears pressed flat with irritation. She wouldn't give up, but loneliness was gradually beginning to weigh on her. Maybe, if luck was on her side, she'd finally see another horse today.

Luna's not evil, but she's not overly nice either. She's quite neutral in most manner of things typically relying on first introductions to get a read on what type of horse she's dealing with. Not that it matters much to her in the long run. Luna doesn't hide who she is and will happily drag another along on her adventures whether they agree to it or not. Her curiosity keeps her motivated along with her endless drive to discover as many new things as she can. She can be impatient, sometimes even brash in her decision making or get aggressive when her frustration gets the best of her. Yet, despite all these things Luna has a kind heart. Whether one sees that or not depends on how well they grow to know her.

History
[attr="class","maintext"]
Born amongst the wildflowers and vast expanse of untouched hills, Luna entered this world surrounded by her mother, and a plethora of aunts, cousins, and elder sisters. Her birth herd was extensive and large, but there was no stallion. Not even brothers or uncles. Luna didn’t really question this as a foal. Her mother led their extensive family from one place to another without much issue, but as the filly grew her infamous curiosity started to pique. Gradually she began to question where her father was and why there weren’t any other stallions in the herd. Her mother never gave her a direct answer, but Luna eventually pried the answer out of her once she reached her second year: they were dead. The extensive herd wasn’t actually made up of her biological family, but other smaller herds who’s lead stallions, even sons, had been either taken down by humans or stolen away never to be seen again. This, her mother explained, was the humans’ way of controlling their populations. Without stallions to give them foals, they were left with little protection from threats or if more humans wished to take from their herds. Luna’s mother was one of the lucky few who managed to flee with others from the broken and scattered herds, carrying the last of her band stallion’s legacy. With the truth revealed Luna made a silent vow not only for herself, but the father she never got to meet.
[break] [break]
She would build up her own ‘herd.’ Create a family and continue her father’s legacy, passing down the stories of her mother and the other mares so they’d never be forgotten. With her resolve solidified, Luna parted from her mother shortly after reaching her third year, determined to brave the world on her own until she found someone worthy enough to build her future family with.

Is This Your First Character? No (Izadora, Deirdre)
Distinguishing Markings Her frame pattern is very minimal and is difficult to tell she has. The marking on her face is roughly shaped like a 'yin and yang' symbol.

Personality
[attr="class","maintext"]
Positive Traits: - Compassionate: Deirdre won't hesitate to help someone who's in need. Her mother raised her to have a kind heart and this the mare follows as best as anyone could do. Sometimes, it can be a major fault of hers, but Deirdre doesn't let that keep her from extending a helping hoof when the situation calls for it. - Determined: No matter what life flings at her hooves Deirdre will stomp out the negative and barrel forward with a bulls stubborn fire. Once her mind is set on a goal nothing shy of death itself can keep her from accomplishing it. - Curious: This mare has a feline level of curiosity which...often gets her into trouble more often than not. When something piques her interest all reason often flies off leaving behind a mare who will invade personal space and fire off a multitude of questions that some might consider insensitive. - Friendly: Deirdre can be friendly if one manages to catch her before she catches them. She's not shy about befriending anyone who decides to stick around long to chat. Albeit she's a bit awkward, but open about herself and anything that one may pose as a question to her.
[attr="class","maintext"]
Negative Traits: - Unforgiving: It's rare to get Deirdre to a point where she refuses to forgive you, but once that point is reached you have a mare who could care less if you groveled at her feet. She doesn't tolerate anyone who purposely goes out of their way to hurt her or foals. Especially foals. - Blunt: Even without meaning to Deirdre can come across incredibly blunt and harsh at times. Most of the time she never realizes she's done it unless someone points it out and despite her efforts to work on it, the mare still slips up and says something insensitive. - Stubborn: If there's one thing that anyone can learn off the bat about this mare, it's this. Stubbornness practically flows through this lady's blood and if she detects event a hint of something she might want an answer to, she'll persist after it until she gets it. - Independent: While most might see this as a positive sign, Deirdre is almost to a fault. While she is quick to help others, the same can't be said for her receiving it. She will insist on doing things on her own even if it's clear she can't. Deep down she doesn't want to become a burden on anyone and believes doing everything herself will keep that from happening.
[attr="class","maintext"]
Quirks/Fun Facts: Deirdre has a terrible habit of wandering off if something shiny captures her attention. She's like a bird and will collect whatever has snagged her interest to hoard it in random places.
[break]
[attr="class","maintext"]
Very elegant and classy mare who is hard headed and holds the determination of a charging bull. Deirdre isn’t the type to back down from life’s challenges, often pushing beyond the limits and barreling forward with grit and steadfastness. She can be blunt and unforgiving, but she lacks the understanding of when she is unless it’s laid out before her. Deirdre isn’t a nasty mare by any means, but knows what she wants and when she wants it. She holds herself to a high standard and more often than not berates herself when she feels she’s fallen short of accomplishing her goals. Despite this, Deirdre doesn’t allow things to keep her down for long. The mare is quick to bounce back from whatever setbacks life may throw on her path. All things considered, Deirdre can be kind, even understanding to a point. There’s a lot about the world that she doesn’t understand, but she will try her best to help those who appear to need it. Even going beyond what would be asked of her to ensure that whoever requires her help is okay in the end.

History
[attr="class","maintext"]
Born amongst a large, extended family, Deirdre was the first and only daughter of her father, Suni. The filly was large for her age and the birth caused complications for her mother and, ultimately, took her life a few short days later. Struck by grief at the passing of his beloved, her father cursed her existence. Swearing at the equally grieving foal and giving her her name: Deirdre. That day she was abandoned, tossed onto another mare who was already raising a foal of her own.
[break]
[break] Her adoptive mother (Isina) welcomed the newborn with a loving gentleness that her father had refused to give. Her own foal, a daughter (Yarrow), was happy to have a ‘little sister’ to look after and help raise despite still being small herself. Deirdre developed a quick and fierce bond with her new mother and sister, the filly growing into a fine and healthy yearling as the months progressed. Her father never spoke to her again, but Deirdre didn’t mind. She was becoming rapidly independent and her soon-to-be classic bullheadedness was beginning to shine as bright as the sun. Isina encouraged the filly in her growth only stepping in when she felt Deirdre needed the guidance. Deirdre took her mothers advice seriously and, over the next few years, gradually molded herself into the mare she is now.
[break]
[break] Deirdre has since left her birth herd and is now traveling to seek out her own place in the vast expanse of the world. The mare is eager to find where she ‘fits’ and with her mother and sister as her guiding lights she knows she can’t fail.
Distinguishing Markings has a medium to large expression of tovero markings with the most distinguishing feature being a "reversed" badger face. Her mane and tail are both thick and very long with the occasional curls showing through. Usually after she's swam or it's overly hot and humid.

Personality
[attr="class","maintext"]
Positive Traits: - Determined: After suffering a major loss as a yearling Izadora had to grow up far faster than anyone at that age should've. It became the main driving force behind her survival and in turn helped her develop an almost stubborn determination to get through anything life threw her way. - Happy-Go-Lucky: When around foals or those who have taken the time to earn her trust Izzy is a ball of positive, endless energy. She loves to take in the simplest joys life has to offer and share them with those she cares for.
[break][break]
- Motherly: Izzy has a high maternal drive and shows endless patience and kindness when interacting with foals. She loves them all dearly and will take it upon herself to watch over any foals within the herd should she be allowed. With that, Izzy can become as fierce as a wildcat should any foals under her charge be threatened and will do everything in her power to protect them.
[break][break]
- Loyal: once a stallion wins her over Izzy will not leave him. The mare will stubbornly stick by his side and aggressively reject any others who try to lure her away. To her if he's willing to work hard at gaining her trust then he's very much worth her loyalty.
[break][break]
- Honest: Izzy, despite her initial nervousness, will always be honest when spoken to. The mare doesn't have a mean bone in her body and won't go out of her way to be harsh, but will always be truthful and kind with her words unless a situation calls for otherwise.
[attr="class","maintext"]
[break]
Negative Traits: - Skittish: Izzy is a generally nervous mare who runs first and asks questions later. It takes a lot of work for her to become comfortable around others- particularly stallions. However, once that trust is earned she blossoms like a spring flower and her true self shines through.
[break][break]
- Overprotective: With the birth of her son Izadora's maternal instincts have seemed to kick into overdrive. Constantly side-eyeing anything that may come too close, even more so with other horses even if they're a distance away and not being a bother. Inwardly she doesn't want her foal to face the same fate she did and will do anything within her power to prevent it from happening.
[break][break]
- Uncertain: In the face of circumstances unfamiliar to her, Izzy is noticeably uncertain. Hesitant and wary Izzy will follow extreme caution, sometimes overly so, which might drive others a little mad if they don't know her well.
[break][break]
- Aggressive: Incredibly rare to see, Izzy doesn't have a mean bone in her body, however, with a foal to protect this mare doesn't play when it comes to both his and Cloudskipper's safety. In the face of a threat Izzy's normally skittish behavior will melt into quick aggression, the mare turning into a wrathful, vengeful beast who will stop at nothing to protect her little family.
[break]
[attr="class","maintext"]
Quirks/Fun Facts: Izadora absolutely LOVES water and will take any opportunity to swim if the season and weather permits. She also has an obsession with flowers.
[break]
[attr="class","maintext"]
Izadora overall is a fairly well rounded mare who still retains her foal-like innocence despite being grown and now having a foal of her own. She hopes to teach her son to take life one day at a time and there's no need to rush things, to take joy in the little things. The mare has learned a lot in her years of growing up alone, and learned even more while traveling with her adored Cloudskipper. She hopes to be the best role model for her current and future foals and that they can be just as kind as they are strict.

History
[attr="class","maintext"]
Izadora was born with only her mother, Dune, for company. Her father was never known and her mother refused to speak about him whenever the young filly asked. There was no herd for safety so mother and daughter would constantly be on the move. For months Izzy was moved from one place to the next, never staying anywhere long enough for her to be a foal. This led to the young filly becoming anxious and nervous; particularly whenever other horses would be spotted. Her mother never approached anyone and would go out of her way to avoid them at all costs, but shortly after Izzy became a yearling their luck ran out.
[break][break]
On one of their many morning routines to water Dune accidentally ran them into a herd. The following chaos would end up only a blur in the young filly's memory. The lead stallion had immediately tried claiming Dune as his own, but her mother viciously refused. A fight soon broke out as her mother desperately fought to protect Izzy screaming at her to run. Terrified and confused Izzy fled from the squeals and screams running and running until the sounds had long faded.
[break][break]
Izadora never saw her mother again after that day. For weeks Izzy stayed in the area traveling the path they'd taken for such a short time hoping, praying, her mother would show. When it finally hit that her mother was gone Izzy was devastated. Dune had been the only family she had and without her she felt lost. Despite this, Izzy refused to let this take her down. She'd been taught early on how to survive and so survive she would. The following year would become a test of this and the determination Izadora had to live. As of now the now adult Izzy has successfully avoided coming across herds like the one that separated her and her mother. Time will only tell if the nomadic life will continue or if she can be won over by another.
[break][break]
One day, in the midst of winter Izadora's lonely filled life was forever changed. Stumbling across a bachelor stallion named Cloudskipper the mare took to him instantly. Together, the two set off on an adventure and gradually, Izadora fell in love with the kind hearted stallion. This she wouldn't confess until after a year of traveling together and eventually, she gave birth to their son, Aurum.
